Message from Youth Chaplain

TOWARDS MEANINGFUL CELEBRATION OF ADVENT

We have entered into another advent season. One of the hallmarks in the life of an American is that throughout the year you have so many celebrations that are so meaningful. But do we look into the roots and history of these celebrations and whether when we celebrate these events do we understand the meaning behind this celebrations.

The month of December is when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the season of advent. This is the season when we consciously think about the Incarnation of God. A time of thanksgiving and praise to God for giving us His Son so that through him we are able to experience eternal life [ John 3:16]. Our life today is in such disarray. Every person goes through stress in one form or the other. The quality of life that we lead is so disgusting. Everyone is in search for some sort of meaning. It is here that in Jesus Christ we find a new perspective about life and its meaning. The celebration of the incarnation should help each only if we deliberately come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and also take steps that we grow in the knowledge of the Lord.

Renewal is another aspect that we could do in this advent season. This season will be meaningful only if we are able to renew our life according to the meaning that we ascribe to the celebration of Christmas. Paul in the letter to the Corinthians [2 Corinthians 5:17] ] says that if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has passed and the new has come. It is this newness that we need to celebrate. Somehow all of us think that once we come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, that relationship or the knowledge about our Saviour need not be renewed or enriched. That is why you have lot of believers whose faith i would call as ” dead faith”. Though they express that they believe in Jesus Christ and claim to be committed Christians, their life do not express nor affirm the fullness of life that Jesus Christ gives to those who seek him. Hence let us this season bring about a change in the way we live our Christian life and consciously through the celebration of the advent season, show to others how our life is different because we are in a dynamic and living relationship with Jesus Christ.

Wishing you all a meaningful advent season this year.
